Osteen Mango Grafted
Osteen mango plant is a grafted mango variety that suits Indian weather better than many people expect. I’ve kept this plant in my nursery for some years now, and honestly, it handles heat and rains quite well.
This is a grafted mango plant, so you don’t have to wait forever for fruits. If you already grow Alphonso, Kesar, or Banganapalli and want something different (something that looks premium), Osteen is a good choice.

Why Grow Osteen Mango Plant? (Real Benefits)
- Good nutrition – The fruit has Vitamin A and C, plus natural sweetness. Easy to digest too.
- Strong in Indian climate – Handles heat, humidity, and even heavy rains if drainage is okay.
- Looks premium – When fruits ripen, the skin turns purple-red (people think it’s imported).
- Not too fussy – If you forget watering once, plant won’t punish you immediately.
- Gives fruits for many years – One-time planting, long-term benefit. That’s mango for you.
(In my nursery, older Osteen plants give more stable fruiting than some delicate varieties.)
Key Characteristics
- Appearance: Medium to large fruits, smooth skin, dark purple to red shade when ripe.
- Taste: Sweet with slight tang, no fibers at all (very clean cutting mango).
- Variety Type: Late-season mango, originally developed in Florida from Haden mango.
- Growth Speed: Grows fast in open ground, medium speed in pots.
How to Plant & Where to Use
- Ground planting: Keep at least 12–15 feet gap from other trees.
- Pot planting: Minimum 18-inch pot. Bigger is always better later.
- Always keep the graft joint above soil level (don’t cover it, common mistake).
Small tip from experience:
👉 Use a bamboo stick support for first year. Wind during monsoon can tilt young plants.
You can also pair this with our Alphonso Mango Plant so you get early-season and late-season mangoes from your garden.
Growing & Care Tips
- Give full sun. South or East side is best.
- Water only when top soil feels dry. Put finger inside soil, 2–3 inches deep.
- During monsoon, reduce watering fully. Let rain do the job.
- Mulching helps a lot in summer (dry leaves, coco husk, anything).
Uses of Osteen Mango
- Eat fresh (best use, trust me).
- Fruit salads and desserts.
- Juice and pulp (color comes out nice).
- Good shelf life, so fruits don’t spoil quickly after picking.
Nursery Secrets – What We Actually Do
- Sunlight: Keep in East or South-facing area. Morning sun is very important.
- Watering: 2–3 times a week (Summer). Once in 7–10 days (Winter). Too much water = root problems.
- Soil Mix: 40% garden soil, 30% river sand, 30% compost or well-rotted cow dung
- Fertilizer: Vermicompost in every 2 months and Neem Khali in every 3 months
- Before flowering: Bone meal or Potash (light dose only)
- Pruning: After harvest or before monsoon. Cut weak, crossing branches. Don’t over-prune (mango doesn’t like haircut every year).

(I’ve seen better fruit size when plants are not too bushy.)
Important Note:
Osteen mango is not for someone who wants instant results in one year. But if you give it sun, decent soil, and don’t drown it with water, this plant will reward you properly. And yes, when fruits turn purple-red, people will ask where you bought it from.
