Pusa Surya mango plant is one of my personal favourites for Indian homes. It is strong, early fruiting, and handles our Indian climate very well. In my nursery, I’ve noticed this plant gives fruits faster than many other mango types. If you have a terrace, small garden, or backyard, this mango fits nicely and grows without too much drama (which I like!).

Early fruiting compared to local mango plants

  • Sweet, fiber-free pulp (kids love it)
  • Good yield even in small spaces
  • Suitable for terrace gardening
  • Long shelf life fruits (easy to store or gift)
  • Rich in Vitamins A & C for immunity

Honestly, many customers come back saying this was their first mango harvest at home.

Key Characteristics

  • Pulp: Dark orange, firm, fiber-free, plenty of pulp
  • Taste: Sweet with slight tang (perfect balance)
  • Fruit Size: Medium to large
  • Skin: Golden-yellow with red blush
  • Shelf Life: Very good (doesn’t spoil fast)
  • Maturity: May–June
  • Tree Type: Grafted hybrid
  • Growth: Medium height, semi-vigorous
  • Yield: High and regular

(Sometimes fruits get heavier than expected, so branch support helps.)

How to Plant & Use

Spacing (Ground Planting):
Keep at least 8–10 feet distance between plants.

Pot Size (Terrace or Balcony):
Use minimum 18–24 inch pot with drainage holes. Bigger pot = happier plant.

Soil Mix Tip (Nursery Style):
Garden soil + compost + sand. Simple and works.

Plant it where morning sun comes nicely. Avoid full-day shade.

Growing & Care (Simple & Practical)

  • Sunlight: Needs full sun. Less sun = less fruits.
  • Watering: Water deeply, not daily. Check soil with finger — if top 2 inches are dry, water it.
  • Fertilizer: Use vermicompost every 30–40 days. Before flowering, add a little potash.
  • Pruning: Light pruning after harvest keeps the shape clean.
  • Climate: Handles Indian heat, humidity, and even heavy rains (just avoid waterlogging).

Uses of the Plant

  • Fresh eating
  • Juices and milkshakes
  • Mango jam and puree
  • Desserts and sorbets
  • Home garden shade plant (small but useful)

Nursery Secrets – Detailed Care

  • Young plants bend in strong winds. Tie with a bamboo stick (very useful in terrace gardens).
  • If flowers drop early, reduce watering slightly for 10–15 days.
  • Push a dry bamboo stick into soil. If mud sticks, don’t water.
  • During heavy rains, keep pot slightly raised to avoid root rot.
  • When fruits grow big, support branches using rope or stick (otherwise branches crack).
