Key Characteristics

• Origin: Developed in Australia.
• Fruit Appearance: Round, bright yellow-orange skin with a red blush. Looks very attractive in basket.
• Flesh: Deep orange, firm, juicy, and no fiber problem.
• Taste: Sweet with slight citrus and mild spice note. Not too sour.
• Tree Type: Medium to vigorous growth with upright canopy.
• Season: Mid-season variety (after Kensington Pride type varieties).

How to Plant & Use

Plant your R2E2 mango in a location where it gets full sunlight. Keep at least 10–12 feet spacing between two trees. Don’t plant too close. Mango roots need space.

For pots:

• Use minimum 18–24 inch drum or grow bag.
• Make sure proper drainage holes are there.
• Add garden soil + compost + river sand mix (1:1:1 ratio).

When planting, don’t bury the graft joint. Keep it above soil level. Be careful with the roots while removing from nursery bag.

Growing & Care Tips

• Watering: In summer, water twice a week. In winter, once in 7–10 days is enough. Always check soil by putting your finger 1–2 inches inside. If dry, then water.
• Fertilizer: Use cow dung compost or vermicompost every 2–3 months. During flowering, add a little neem cake.
• Pruning: Remove weak and criss-cross branches after harvest. This keeps tree shape balanced.
• Support: In first year, tie plant with a bamboo stick so strong wind doesn’t bend it.
• Pest Care: Spray neem oil once in 20 days to avoid hoppers and mealybugs.

Side note – sometimes this tree grows quite fast, so regular light pruning helps manage height in small gardens.

Because pulp is firm and less fibrous, cutting slices is very easy. No mess.

Nursery Secrets (From My Experience)

• Always buy grafted plant, not seedling. Seed plants take many years and fruit quality is not sure.
• First flowering? Remove flowers in first year. Let plant focus on strong roots. Hard to do, I know. But worth it.
• Don’t overwater. Mango hates wet feet.
• During heavy Indian monsoon, make small drainage channel around plant.

One real trick – insert a small stick in soil. If it comes out sticky and wet, no need to water. Simple village method. Works every time.
