Satluj Purple Plum
If you think plums only grow in the mountains, the Satluj Purple Plum will surprise you. It is specially born for our Indian plains and handles the heat very well.
Unlike other plums, this Japanese variety ripens very early in May. I personally love this variety because it gives fruit very early, right when the summer starts!

Satluj Purple Plum Key Characteristics:
The Look: Beautiful round fruits with a very dark purple skin. Inside, the pulp is a lovely yellow-orange.
The Taste: It’s very sweet with a “TSS” (sugar level) of about 13-14%. It’s not sour like some other plums.
Fast Picking: You don’t have to wait all year; the fruit is usually ready by the first week of May.
Grafted Quality: We only sell grafted or air-layered plants, so you get fruits much faster than seed-grown ones.
The Satluj Purple is a proven performer according to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) fruit research, ensuring you get high-quality yields in subtropical climates.
Our growing methods follow the Standard Horticulture Guidelines, ensuring you get the best yield from your grafted trees.
Cultivation & Use
Where to plant: You can put it in your backyard or even a big 20-inch drum on your terrace. Just give it space to breathe.
Best for Jams: Because it’s so sweet and juicy, it makes the best homemade jam and jelly I’ve ever tasted.
Pro Tip: If you plant a ‘Kala Amritsari’ plum nearby, your Satluj Purple will produce double the fruit!
If you are planning a fruit garden, the Satluj Purple Plum pairs perfectly with our Nijisseiki Pear (Asian Pear). Both varieties are low-chill and thrive in the same soil conditions, making them easy to manage together.
| Problem | Solution |
| Small Fruit Size | Thin out crowded fruits; ensure proper spacing between trees. |
| Fruit Not Sweet | Needs more direct sunlight; avoid overwatering during ripening. |
| Pests/Bugs | Use organic Neem Oil spray every 15 days during the growing season. |
Benefits
Heart Health: The dark purple color comes from anthocyanins, which are excellent for your heart.
No Cold Needed: Most plums need a freezing winter, but this one is “low-chill,” meaning it fruits easily in Punjab, Haryana, and UP.
Fresh & Healthy: Nothing beats the vitamins you get from picking a plum straight from your own tree.
Care Tips (Nursery Secrets)
Sunlight
Keep your plant in the sunniest spot you have. In India, East or South exposure is best. If it stays in the shade, the fruit won’t turn purple or get sweet.
Watering
In our hot summers, you must water it daily. When the fruit is growing in April and May, don’t let the soil get bone dry. In winter, you can relax and water only when the top 2 inches of soil feel dry.
Soil & Fertilizer
Plums hate “pich-pich” (soggy) soil. Use a mix of garden soil, sand, and 30% Vermicompost. Twice a year, dig a little and add Neem Khali to keep the termites and root pests away.
